New Delhi. People are not getting respite from air pollution in the country’s capital Delhi. There is a lot of air pollution in nearby cities also. Talking about Delhi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400 at many places including Anand Vihar and Bawana on Sunday morning. AQI had crossed 450 at 9 places in Delhi on Saturday morning. In this way, people of Delhi and surrounding areas are facing suffocating air. The Delhi government had written a letter to Union Environment Minister Dharmendra Yadav demanding artificial rain in the capital, but this too is not possible.

Central Pollution Control Board i.e. CPCB has expressed failure in providing artificial rain to reduce air pollution in Delhi. According to CPCB, there are no clouds in Delhi right now. Because of this, cloud seeding cannot take place for artificial rain. Clouds are necessary for artificial rain. CPCB has also said that a lot of money is being spent in making artificial rain in Delhi. In such a situation, relief will come for the people of Delhi and surrounding areas only when nature itself brings rain. Right now, due to dry cold winds, it is not going to be possible for clouds to come and rain in Delhi. There is dense smog all around Delhi and due to this, train, road and air traffic is also being affected.

Air pollution increases every year with the onset of cold season in Delhi and surrounding areas. The main reason for this is burning of stubble in Punjab, Haryana and Western UP. Besides, smoke from diesel-powered vehicles coming from other states also increases pollution in and around Delhi. Same thing has happened this year also. However, as pollution continues to increase, diesel-powered vehicles have been banned by implementing Group 4 rules in Delhi. The Supreme Court had also expressed concern and displeasure over the level of air pollution in Delhi continuing to remain serious. After this, the central government doubled the amount of fine on farmers who burn stubble. Nevertheless, dozens of cases of stubble burning took place and this increased the problems for the people of Delhi and surrounding areas.
