President Draupadi Murmu hoisted the tricolor on the duty path on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day on Sunday. The national anthem was sung after the flag hoisting. All the dignitaries present there including President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar saluted the flag. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day celebrations.
With this, he became included in the list of select world leaders who have graced the country’s biggest event in the last seven decades. Subianto will be the fourth President of Indonesia to attend the Republic Day celebrations. Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia, was the chief guest at India’s first Republic Day celebrations in 1950. The parade started on the duty path after saluting the national flag. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi visited the National War Memorial and paid tribute to the martyrs on behalf of a grateful nation.
With this, Republic Day celebrations began in the country. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan and chiefs of the three defense services were also present on the occasion. India got independence from the British on 15 August 1947 but on 26 January 1950, India was declared a sovereign democratic republic. Exactly 75 years ago, on this day, the Constitution of India came into force.

Powerful systems were displayed on the salute stage, reflecting the Army’s commitment towards innovation and self-reliance: Integrated Battlefield Surveillance System, Short Span Bridging System and Akash Weapon System.
These indigenously developed state-of-the-art systems not only highlight India’s progress in defense technology but also emphasize the strategic strength and readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Integrated Battlespace Surveillance System (IBSS), developed jointly by the Indian Army and Bharat Electronics Limited, was brought to the Salute platform, which is designed to integrate all ground and airborne sensors on a common grid, providing commanders with geographical information. The system provides integrated views through overlays.
This year, Republic Day highlights 75 years of the implementation of the Constitution and emphasizes on “public participation”.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid a wreath at the National War Memorial at India Gate and paid tribute to the brave men who sacrificed their lives for the country, after which President Murmu honored Indian Navy officers Lieutenant Shubham Kumar and Lieutenant Yogita Saini.
