Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to Professor Wang Jicheng, a reputed scholar of China, appreciating his efforts to popularize Yoga, Vedanta and Indian cultural traditions in China.
A press release issued by the consulate said that Indian Consulate General Prateek Mathur submitted a letter of Prime Minister to Professor Wang at a function on Thursday.
The release said that the ceremony was held in the prestigious Jhejiang University campus in Hangzho. India and China are celebrating the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations this year.
In his letter, Modi praised Wang’s dedication for promoting the deep understanding of Indian philosophical traditions, especially through yoga and works on Vedanta.
In his address, Consul General Mathur praised Wang’s “tireless efforts to popularize Indian culture” and highlighted how yoga has become a strong medium for cultural diplomacy.
The press release quoted him as saying, “Professor Wang’s contribution is an example of shared aspirations of India and China to connect through our rich history and traditions.”
Mathur said, “The popularity of yoga in China is a proof of its universal appeal and its ability to bring our people closer to each other.”
The press release stated that Wang’s efforts have contributed significantly to increasing the popularity of yoga in China and in China it has emerged as a widely adopted method for physical and mental health.
In the last decade, yoga has become quite popular in Chinese cities. Millions of people are participating in programs like yoga classes, workshops and International Yoga Day.
