Wayanad. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of Congress General Secretary and Gandhi-Nehru family, will file nomination today for the by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. On the occasion of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s nomination from Wayanad, many big leaders including her brother Rahul Gandhi, mother Sonia Gandhi and Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge will be present. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting the elections for the first time and hence winning the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat is a big question of prestige for her.
Wayanad seat was also won by Rahul Gandhi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after 2019. Rahul Gandhi had also won Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat. After which he left the Kerala seat. Since then there were speculations that Congress would make Priyanka Gandhi Vadra contest the Lok Sabha by-election from Wayanad and the same happened. Left parties have decided to field CPI leader Satyan Mokeri and BJP Navya Haridas against Priyanka Gandhi from Wayanad seat. Now also know that when Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat, what was the number of votes he got? In the year 2019, Rahul Gandhi was the Congress candidate from Wayanad, so the Left parties did not field a candidate against him. Then Rahul Gandhi got 706367 votes in Wayanad. When Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in 2024, he got 647445 votes. Whereas, CPI’s Annie Raja, who was in opposition, lost by 364422 votes. BJP stood at third place. That means the number of votes received by Rahul Gandhi decreased as compared to 2019.
In Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has to compete against CPI’s Satyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas.
This time CPI and Left parties are raising the question that Priyanka Gandhi should tell that if she wins the Lok Sabha by-election, then how many days will she stay in Wayanad? The reason for this is that Rahul Gandhi became MP from Wayanad, but used to go there only occasionally. At the same time, Priyanka Gandhi may also face challenge from local leader Navya Haridas. Whereas, CPI candidate Satyan Mokeri is also considered a player to contest the elections. In such a situation, it is a question of honor for Priyanka Gandhi to win the Wayanad seat by a big margin. If we look at the voters of Wayanad, their total number is 1359679. Among these, Muslims are 32 percent, Christians are 13 percent, Scheduled Tribes are 9.5 percent and Scheduled Castes are 3 percent voters.
