Priyanka Gandhi in Wayanad.
Wayanad: Congress-led UDF candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday expressed hope that the people of this parliamentary constituency will give her a chance to represent herself in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. While visiting the polling booths during the ongoing voting for by-elections in Wayanad, the Congress General Secretary said, ‘I hope that the people of Wayanad will give me an opportunity to return the love and affection that they have given me. They will give me a chance to work for them and become their representative.
Will there be a bigger victory than Rahul? Priyanka replied
When asked a question on the issue of Waqf law, Priyanka said, ‘I don’t think today is the day to talk about such controversies. Today is voting day. I hope that everyone will use their democratic rights and vote. When Priyanka was asked whether she would win Wayanad by a bigger margin than her brother Rahul Gandhi, she said, ‘That remains to be seen.’ Let us tell you that Rahul had won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes. In 2019, his victory margin was more than 4.3 lakh votes.
‘Priyanka ready to be your voice in Parliament’
Let us tell you that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday appealed to the voters of Wayanad to support his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He told the voters that Priyanka will be more than a representative for them, they will be their sister, daughter and a member who raises their voice. Rahul Gandhi said in a post on ‘X’, ‘I am contacting my family in Wayanad in this election. My sister Priyanka Gandhi is ready to become your voice in Parliament. She will be more than a representative. She will be your sister, your daughter and your advocate.
‘Get out, vote and support them’
The former Congress president said, ‘I appeal to all of you to come out, vote and support him. Let us together give them a great victory. Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi, who won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in the general elections held a few months ago, had left this parliamentary constituency after winning the Rae Bareli seat also, hence by-elections have to be held here. There are 16 candidates in the fray for this seat, including Congress-led UDF’s Priyanka Gandhi, CPM-led LDF’s Satyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas. (Language)
