New Delhi. To save the youth from the fraud in the name of online games, the Central Government today introduced the online gaming promotion and regulation Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha. The bill was passed from the lower house amidst the opposition’s uproar and noise. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav presented the online gaming bill in the Lok Sabha, after which the President of the House, Om Birla, decided flagged down on the proposal to discuss the bill. The government’s objective behind bringing its bill is to promote e-Sports along with banning the online money games and betting by them.
For the first time, e-sports are being given legal recognition through Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. According to the government, approximately 45 crore people are falling prey to cheating through online money games every year. In view of all this, preparations are being made to ban betting apps like Fantasy League, online lottery, poker, rami. There is a provision in this bill that action will also be taken against the promoters and public promoters of the money transactions. There is also a provision for a jailor of up to three years or a fine of up to Rs 1 crore to those who provide online money gaming service.
