Promotion of self -reliant India: Rajnath Singh approves this project, what is it?

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday approved the execution model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, which aims to increase indigenous defense capabilities and develop a strong domestic aerospace industry. The project will be implemented by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) with private and public sector companies. AMCA is a fifth generation medium-wise stealth fighter jet, developed by DRDO at a cost of about Rs 15,000 crore. The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security on 7 March 2024.

The first two squadron will use the GE-F414 engines, while the next five will have 110 kilonutones indigenous engines. Prototype growth by 2028 and large -scale production is expected to begin by 2035. The AMCA will have stealth characteristics such as advanced sensor fusion, internal weapon bay and serpentine air-Attech. The project will promote private sector participation, which will include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and other companies.

This step is part of India’s self -reliant India initiative, which promotes indigenous manufacturing. According to the Ministry of Defense, Indian companies can individually, bid through joint venture or consortia. ADA will soon issue a letter (EOI) for the AMCA development phase. The project is an important step towards making India a pioneer in the global aerospace sector and ensuring strong defense capacity against terrorism.
