Hearing in Delhi High Court
The Center on Monday opposed the petition of Turki’s company Celebi Airport Services India Private Limited and another company against the decision of the aviation regulator BCAS to cancel security approval in the Delhi High Court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Center, told Judge Sachin Dutta that this decision has been taken in the interest of national security, as some such information was received that it would be dangerous to continue the services of the petitioner companies in the present situation.
Due to this, security approval of the company canceled
A few days after Turkaye supported Pakistan and condemned India’s attacks on terrorist structures in the neighboring country, the Civil Aviation Bureau of Security (BCAS) had canceled the security approval of these companies. Celebi Airport Services India Private Limited and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Private Limited were overseeing ground handling and cargo terminal tasks respectively.
Called without giving any reason- lawyer
Mehta said, “I am saying that this is the issue of national security and (the order to cancel the approval) reflects the same.” Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued on behalf of the company that the decision was taken due to ‘public perception’, which cannot be the basis of it. He said that security approval was canceled without giving a chance to hear or without giving reasons.
Company working for 17 years
Rohatgi said, “I think it has been done due to public perception due to the Turki citizens being a shareholder in the company.” He said that the petitioner has been working with 14,000 employees for 17 years.
The case will now be heard on 21 May
Judge Dutta asked if the court could review such decisions again and whether it is mandatory to give notice in advance in such cases. He then fixed the next hearing of the case on 21 May. (With language input)
