A case was registered against the organizers and participants who took out the Yoom-e-Kuds procession in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday for spoiling the law and order. According to the police, the case is related to the procession taken out at Sonpah village, Birwah in Budgam district of Central Kashmir.
Em-e-Kuds, also known as Kuds Day or International Kuds Day, is celebrated on the last Friday of Ramadan. This day is known to perform in support of Palestine and show solidarity. A police spokesman said that a large number of people gathered and raised objectionable slogans in Sonpah village under the leadership of organizers. This led to concern about law and order. In addition, the slogans made by the organizers disrupted the Sonpah-Birwah road, causing inconvenience to the general public.
Taking immediate cognizance of the case, the police have registered a case under sections 126 (2) and 189 (6) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) at the Bevarah police station. The police spokesman said the investigation is going on and necessary legal action will be taken against the culprits. At the same time, people have been appealed to maintain peace and avoid dissolving public system.
Significantly, in September 2024, there were large -scale protests in Kashmir. During that time people demonstrated against the murder of Hizbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah. The protesters raised slogans in support of the martyrs of Palestine and demonstrated against Israel and the US. PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed solidarity towards this demonstration by canceling the final phase of election campaign.
