Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday said that drivers and conductors of public transport (DTC and cluster) buses will be suspended if they are found moving without picking up the waiting women passengers from the designated stop.
Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister asked the women of Delhi to take pictures of such buses and post them on social media so that strict action can be taken against the guilty drivers and conductors.
The transport department has issued orders to all drivers and conductors of DTC and cluster buses to ensure picking up women passengers from bus stops. Atishi said that if their buses do not stop to avoid picking up women passengers then such drivers and conductors will be suspended.
He said, “The Delhi government is committed to ensure that women passengers use buses freely as per their need. The economy will be stronger if more and more women come out for work, education and other activities.”
Women commuters in Delhi can enjoy free travel in public transport buses. The Chief Minister said the government reimburses DTC and cluster buses for the ‘pink’ passes issued to women for free travel.
He said that there is no reason why buses should not be stopped for women passengers as there is no harm in it.
