Farmer leaders Saravan Singh Pandher, Abhimanyu Kohar and Kaka Singh Kotra, who were detained during the recent police action after a meeting with a delegation of the Center, were released on Friday.
Officials said that Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Pandher was released from Muktsar Jail while Kohar, Kotra and some other farmer leaders were released from Patiala Central Jail.
Pandher issued a video message condemning the Punjab Police action against the protesting farmers on Shambhu and Khanouri border. Farmers were camping for more than a year at these sites for more than a year on their various demands, including legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP).
The police took several farmer leaders into custody on March 19 when they were returning after a meeting with a central delegation headed by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Chandigarh.
The meeting was held to discuss the demands of farmers, including the legal guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) for crops. As soon as the farmers entered Mohali after the meeting, they faced heavy innovators and some farmer leaders were taken into custody.
Police removed farmers and temporary structures installed there from Shambhu and Khanouri border. After this, the movement of vehicles on Shambhu-Ambala and Sangrur-Jind highways started again.
The protesting farmers criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab for removing him from Shambhu and Khanouri border and taking farmer leaders into custody.
