A new political weapon became alleged attack on intoxication, mafia desolate campaign from bulldozer without hearing indiscriminately in Punjab, attachment in Haryana
The governments do not stop even with the strict order of the biggest court. ‘Bulldozer Insaf’ has now reached Punjab by jumping from BJP ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Hariana and Gujarat. The declared reason, ‘war is against drugs’. For the last two decades, the government woke up from sleep in Punjab, struggling with the serious problem of drugs, without proving the allegations, the alleged intoxicants started to destroy the house of the smugglers. There is no one to listen to the legal documents of household comments, the screams of the desolate people. In the last one month, bulldozers were run on more than 100 properties. On the other hand, attachment of assets without hearing in Haryana continues.
Like the rest of the BJP -ruled states, both the states are being used as a political weapon and are being used to distract the people from other issues. In Punjab, ‘AAP’ has got the result of preparation for the next assembly elections in it. Even though the Supreme Court describes it as illegal, but politics has started on the philosophy of ‘all justified in love and war’. Former Supreme Court Justice Ashok Bhan says, “When we try to give alleged quick justice bypassing legal processes, we really destroy the rule of law.” Harjinder Singh, a professor and senior political analyst of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar, says, “Governments want to show the public that they are taking strict action on crime, but the real question is whether this action is legal? If this model continues, if this model continues, it will be a normal thing for any government to ignore the judiciary and run a bulldozer.”
Without hearing: house collapsed in Fazilka of Punjab
In the last one month in Punjab, more than 100 properties have been demolished with bulldozers in areas like Amritsar, Patiala, Moga, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Malecotla, Mohali and Tarn Taran, who were accused of indulging in drug trade. 38-year-old Amandeep (name changed) of Barnala lives with parents, wife and two children. The income of the family was a small business of transport. In 2020, he sold an old truck to a relative who was later caught in a drug smuggling case. Amandeep claims that he had no information about it, “A few days ago the police came and asked to vacate the house without any notice. We showed the documents of the house, but there was no hearing. On seeing this, the bulldozer came and everything was found in the soil. ”Amandeep is now living in a rented room with his six members.
Harpreet Singh (name changed) of Chauhan Mohalla village of Moga exposes the shock of justice. Harpreet says, “My brother was booked in 2019. He is on bail in this case under the court. Last month, the police suddenly dropped our ancestral house from bulldozer. The younger sister’s marriage to be held in May also broke. Today, the family of eight members is suffering on the streets.”
His shop was dropped without hearing the plea of a woman from Verka in Amritsar. The woman argued, “The police made a false case against the son due to mutual rivalry in kinship. The allegations in the court proved to be false but now the police has dropped our shop. ”
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann says, “When the drug mafia is ruining our youth, we cannot soften their illegal properties.” A minister in the Punjab government told Outlook on the condition of anonymity, “The government is only running bulldozers on the properties that people involved in drug trade are illegally made.” In such a situation, what about legal documents and legal process, on which the Supreme Court emphasizes?
Former Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Senior Advocate of Supreme Court H.S. Phulka told Outlook, “There are no such practices even in democratic countries of the world. Property rights in America have special protection. In Britain too, a long legal process is followed before destroying someone’s property. This new trend in India is a matter of concern for democratic values. There is an emergency atmosphere in Punjab these days in the name of drug addiction. The government should take action against criminals, but by staying under the purview of law. Legal notice and judicial process are necessary before demolishing properties. If the government itself becomes punch and executioner, then the law does not matter. Only the keepers of the law are flouting the law and democracy. ”
Navkiran Singh, senior advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court, says, “Article 21 of the Indian Constitution guarantees the right to life and personal freedom. The right to property is also protected in the Constitution. Destroying someone’s property without a proper legal process is a direct violation of constitutional rights. Without notice, running bulldozer is to be openly disregarded. If there is any disregard of the law. If there is any accusation on the court, then the government is accused in court Only the police, court and judge have become a judge, if the government can run bulldozers without judicial process today, such action can be taken on political opponents tomorrow. ”
Cycle Yatra: Campaign starts for awareness against drug addiction in Haryana
From March 1 to April 5, in the last 36 days, the five-member cabinet sub-kam president and Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said in a conversation with Outlook, “In this first biggest campaign of Punjab, 4990 drug traffickers have been arrested in this first biggest campaign for drug addiction, which is the biggest action against drugs. Some assets of smugglers have been demolished. Punjab is not the first state that has run the luxurious buildings by drug addicts and gangsters in UP, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana.
Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha member of Aam Aadmi Party Harbhajan Singh wrote on X, “I am not right to run a bulldozer at the house of drug traffickers. If someone has taken any construction by taking possession or government land, then this action of the government is correct, but after breaking the drug trafficker’s house and there should be a sympathy to other members living under that roof.” The first post was reversed and wrote, “I want to make it clear that the AAP government of Punjab is the first government in the state that is taking such concrete action against drug addicts.
The Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP have alleged that the AAP government has taken this step only to distract the public with its three -year failures. Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said, “The AAP government, which claims the arrest of 5000 intoxication smugglers in 36 days, has failed to break the real network of drug addicts while the Narcotics Control Bureau of the neighboring state of Haryana has admitted that 730 out of 860 notorious drug traffickers are out of the jail, of which 380 are still active. The arrest of 5000 drug traffickers is the wind and air talk of the Punjab government. If the government had to really had to end drug addiction, it would have caught the big crocodiles sitting in Canada, Singapore of intoxication, not the properties of small consumed accused of drug addiction. ”
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia said, “There are people sitting inside the government who give shelter to the drugs. All this drama is being created to save them.” Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wading said, “This is the way to hide the government’s failure. If in fact, if the drug mafia is to be taken action, then they should be found and arrest and not their assets to be destroyed. ” Shiromani Akali Dal spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said, “The AAP government is doing media trial. Destroying property without evidence cannot be acceptable in any democratic society. ”
In response to the allegations of the opposition, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “We had promised the public that they will make Punjab drug -free. The people who are trying to stop us are the ones who kept Punjab drunk for decades. We will not allow criminals to escape in any case. This action is being done under the law and we have followed all legal processes.”
Haryana Narcotics Control Bureau’s Chief Director General of Police OP Singh told Outlook, “The assets are being seized after economic investigation of smugglers under the PIT-NDPS Act, but they are not being destroyed. Normal strategies against drugs are over. We have eradicated Sirsa, Yamunanagar and Fatehabad in Haryana as a hotspot. It is also identified who are on bail and taking advantage of the delay in the case trial and carrying out smuggling. ”
In support of the ‘War Drugs’ campaign in Punjab, where Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has started a week -long march in border areas like Kartarpur Sahib Corridor (Karmasthali of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Pakistan) from April 3 to Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, while Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has started cycling from 5 to 27 April. From May 1, the newly appointed in -charge of the AAP Aadmi Party in Punjab will be commanded by Manish Sisodia.
On this campaign, most people say in unison that the Punjab government should continue its fight against drugs, but the tendency to punish without a lawsuit is dangerous for democracy.
This is the way to hide government failure. First arrest should not be made, not property destroyed
