Bhagwant Maan Sarkar of Punjab has staged a sit -in on Nangal Dam amidst police guard on Bhakra water. At present, 4000 cusecs of water is being released from this dam to Haryana every day, but 4500 cusecs of additional water from the intervention of the central government is not ready to give Punjab. Starting a dharna on Nangal Dam on Sunday in protest against the pressure of the central government, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that “Haryana has already been given more water than its quota. Now Punjab will not be allowed to loot any more water.”
Haryana has not stopped the water war between Punjab and Haryana from May 1 over additional water from Bhakra. The Punjab Police has been guarded by the Punjab Police for the last two weeks. However, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan had ordered the Punjab government to remove police guard from Nangal dam and Haryana to release 4500 cusecs of excess water in a meeting with top officials of BBMB and Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan on the dispute over water sharing, however, in a meeting with top officials of BBMB and Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, which has been completely rejected by the Punjab government.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann says that 1700 cusecs of water is made in Haryana while 4000 cusecs of water is already being given.
After the all -party meeting on May 3, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said in the press conference, “Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who held the constitutional post, has done unacceptable work by stopping the water of Haryana. This is the first time that water supply has been stopped from Bhakra to Haryana. Instead of giving water to its share of water, it is approved that the enemy of our innocents should go to Pakistan.
From April 18, Punjab had reduced Haryana 8500 cusecs of water from Bhakra Canal to 4 thousand cusecs. On May 5, the Punjab government called a special session of the Assembly to Haryana from Bhakra to not give additional water to Haryana over the ruckus on the water. Drinking water emergency conditions have arisen in the rural areas of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Hisar, Dadri, Narnaul, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Bhiwani due to less water from Bhakra. In the midst of the scorching heat, the water houses in many rural areas of these districts who came on alert mode have dried up due to the reduction of water supply from Bhakra.
In a hearing of the PIL against Punjab against Punjab in protest against this decision of Punjab, the High Court directed Haryana to release additional water and remove the guard of the Punjab Police from Nangal Dam, but in the event of not implementing them, the High Court has issued contempt notice to Punjab Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and DGP Gorav Yadav, but Punjab is not able to give additional water.
