New Delhi. First the results of Haryana and now Maharashtra assembly elections have given a double blow to Rahul Gandhi and Congress. Whatever issues Rahul Gandhi raised against PM Narendra Modi and BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and the emphasis on the Khatkhat plan, the people of Haryana and Maharashtra have rejected it. In such a situation, now Rahul Gandhi and the Congress high command will have to think about what changes they should make in their failed strategy to win the Delhi and Bihar assembly elections next year.
Rahul Gandhi had focused only on PM Modi and BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and then in the Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi has been continuously cornering PM Modi by threatening the Constitution and naming Adani and Ambani. In the Lok Sabha elections, this strategy of Rahul Gandhi and Congress worked and they secured 99 seats, but after this in Haryana and now in Maharashtra, their anti-Modi narrative and promises of distributing money and free schemes if the government is formed, the public rejected it. Totally rejected. As a result, Rahul Gandhi’s Congress had won only 37 assembly seats in Haryana. At the same time, despite contesting elections on more than 100 assembly seats in Maharashtra, till the time of writing this news, Congress was ahead on only 21 seats. Whereas, under the leadership of Modi, BJP was leading on 126 seats in Maharashtra instead of 105 seats last time.
The only relief for Congress is that it will once again return to power in Jharkhand with JMM, but even after contesting elections on 30 seats, its performance has not been better than in 2019. That means here also the issues raised by Rahul Gandhi could not attract people towards Congress. In such a situation, it is definitely time for Congress to think as to why its issues are not attracting the public and why it is not getting success on the issues raised against PM Modi. Whereas, all the Congress leaders have also seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections that despite raising the issue of Rafale aircraft, they could not put any stain on the image of PM Narendra Modi among the public.
