Congress MP Rahul Gandhi
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has given the Union Home Ministry 4 weeks to decide on the issue of citizenship of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The Home Ministry had sought eight weeks to report on Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship, but the High Court has given four weeks of time rejecting the request. The next hearing of the case will be held on 21 April. Let us know that for the last several years, questions are being raised about Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship and this has been a matter of discussion among the people.
The petition was filed on the basis of the claim that Rahul Gandhi is a citizen of India as well as Britain, in such a situation that he is ineligible to contest elections under Article 84 (A) of the Constitution. Therefore, their masters should be canceled.
What is the case of Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship?
In fact, on 1 July 2024, Karnataka’s lawyer and BJP member S Vignesh Shishir filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court. In this, he also accused Rahul Gandhi of having British citizenship. The petitioner accused the British government citing the confidential mail of 2022. Vignesh Shishir had demanded Rahul Gandhi’s cancellation of Indian citizenship under Section 9 (2) of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955.
The petitioner has documents of British government
The petition requested Rahul to cancel his election from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat this year due to alleged hiding British citizenship. The petitioner has argued that he has all the documents and some emails of the British government that prove that Rahul Gandhi is a British citizen and because of this he is ineligible to contest elections in India. Therefore, he cannot handle the post of Lok Sabha member.
Please tell that Rahul Gandhi won the election from Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in 2024. Prior to this, he has been winning elections from Amethi Lok Sabha seat. However, Rahul Gandhi lost the election to Amethi in the 2019 elections.
