The special thing is that in the era of the Congress government, other accused including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit were arrested in the Malegaon bomb blast case. Even at that time, Sushil Kumar Shinde, who was the Home Minister, had claimed that the accused were trained in Hinduist organizations. Words like Hindu and saffron terrorism started to be used only after the arrest of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and others in the Malegaon bomb blast case. Even on Thursday, WikiLeaks was quoted on social media as saying that Rahul Gandhi had said in a conversation with the then US ambassador that Hindu terrorism is more dangerous than Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terrorism organization of Pakistan. The Congress or Rahul Gandhi did not deny the news of this claim on social media.
The bomb blast took place on September 2008 in Malegaon in Nashik district of Maharashtra. In which 6 people were killed and many others were injured. Ramadan was going on at that time and the festival of Navratri was about to begin a day later. The Malegaon bomb blast case was investigated by Hemant Karkare, a special IG of Maharashtra ATS. Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Shrikant Prasad Purohit had alleged that they were tortured to confess the crime in the Malegaon bomb blast. Later, the Central Government handed over the investigation to the NIA. After hearing the entire case, Special NIA Judge AK Lahoti said in the judgment that the prosecution could not provide any evidence on the involvement of the accused.
