Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that learning English is not a matter of “shame” but it makes children strong and everyone should learn it. On Friday, Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP-RSS does not want the poor child of the country to learn this language, because they do not want these people to achieve equality and ask the government questions. Rahul Gandhi’s statement came a day after Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on English.
He posted on X, “English is not a dam but a dam. It is Empowering, not a matter of shame. English is not chained but a weapon to break it.” He further wrote, “BJP-RSS does not want a poor child to learn it, because he does not want him to ask any questions, move forward and achieve equality.”
According to Rahul Gandhi, in today’s era, English is as important as the mother tongue as it will speed up your chances of getting jobs and will also increase your self-affect. He said, “Every language of India has soul, culture and knowledge. We should respect it, but at the same time all children should be taught English. It is a means of India for competition from the world.”
Significantly, Home Minister Amit Shah said during a book launch program yesterday that the day is not far when English -speaking people will be ashamed of the country. Describing Indian languages as the gem of the country, he said that these languages are part of our identity and without them Indianness cannot be imagined.
He further said that complete India cannot be imagined with incomplete Indian languages. We know that this fight is difficult, but I am confident that Indian society will win this fight. He had said that when we are at the peak of the world in 2047, then Indian languages will contribute a lot in it.
