New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has once again heated up the political atmosphere on the issue of caste census by giving a statement in Bihar on Saturday. Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) accused Rahul Gandhi of hypocrisy on the issue of caste-based census. On behalf of Janata Dal (United), it was said that when Nitish Kumar raised this issue in the meetings of constituent parties of ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India), Congress leaders used to maintain silence. The party also raised the question why the Congress government of Karnataka did not release the caste-based census data of the state?

Rahul had called the caste survey fake

In fact, a day earlier, at an event in Patna, Rahul Gandhi had called the caste-based survey conducted by the Nitish Kumar-led government as fake and advocated a caste-based census across the country. After this, JD(U) working president and MP Sanjay Jha has targeted the Congress leader. Jha said, “There can be no greater hypocrisy than this.” At many places in the meetings of constituent parties of ‘India’, I saw Gandhi (Rahul) maintaining silence, while Kumar was speaking strongly and logically in favor of caste-based census.

Nitish was the only leader who raised the issue of caste census.

Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) was part of ‘India’ before joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Incidentally, the caste-based survey of Bihar was conducted and its findings released at a time when the Congress was an ally in the Kumar-led government. Jha said Kumar was the only leader who raised the issue of caste-based census and all the constituents of ‘India’ are witnesses to this. Defending the caste-based survey in Bihar, he said that the last nationwide caste-based census was conducted in 1931, since then Kumar is the only leader who decided to conduct a census of the population of different castes in a scientific manner.

Why is the Congress government in Karnataka suppressing the figures?

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, he said the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha should be more clear and tell people whether he feels that the population of some communities has been overstated and some understated in the caste-based survey of Bihar. Criticizing the Congress, he said that its government in Karnataka has been suppressing the caste-based census data in the state for many years. He asked why Gandhi did not get it released?
