Rahul Gandhi is in America these days. There he questioned the credibility of our Election Commission. He expressed doubts on the impartiality of the Election Commission. During a conversation with the students of Georgetown University in Washington DC, Rahul Gandhi said that in his view the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were not fair. He described the Election Commission as a commission controlled by the BJP. Rahul Gandhi said that the elections were conducted completely in favor of the BJP, Narendra Modi. The BJP had immense wealth, the power of the administration, the attitude of the Election Commission was in favor of the BJP while the bank accounts of the Congress were frozen. If there were fair elections, the BJP could not have won 240 seats. Standing on the soil of America, Rahul said that the BJP won the elections because it has money, power, Election Commission, media and all the agencies are under the control of the BJP. But someone should ask Rahul Gandhi that when the elections were held in 2014, the Congress had money, power, all the agencies like ED, CBI were in the hands of the Congress, then why could the Congress not win? Then how did Narendra Modi get the majority? Did the Election Commission benefit the BJP even at that time?
This seems childish. Let me remind you of one more thing. I have seen the 1977 elections. At that time, a powerful leader like Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister. Before the elections, there was an emergency in the country for 19 months, all the leaders of the opposition parties were in jail, all the agencies were working for the government without any hindrance. The judiciary was kept intimidated and there was censorship on the media. No one could even utter a word against Indira Gandhi. Despite that, when the elections were held, Indira Gandhi lost badly and the Janata Party formed the government. This clearly means that if the public is against you, then no matter how much power you have, no matter how much money you have, you cannot win the elections. After the emergency, the country saw the worst time in 1984, when Indira ji was assassinated. The assassins were her own security guards and then anti-Sikh riots took place across the country. Thousands of Sikhs were killed. That was the first and last time when the Sikh community experienced such fear, such terror. It has been 40 years since this incident. I mentioned this today because Rahul Gandhi addressed the Sikhs in America and said that he wants Sikhs in India to be able to wear turbans, wear kadas and go to the Gurudwara without any fear.
Union Minister Hardeep Puri reacted sharply to these statements of Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi wants to create a dangerous narrative in the world that Sikhs in India do not have the freedom to practice their religion. Hardeep Puri reminded Rahul Gandhi that this happened only once in the history of India in 1984, when Sikhs were afraid to wear turbans and kadas, when more than three thousand innocent Sikhs were burnt alive. Rahul Gandhi should oppose Narendra Modi, criticize him, it is his right as the leader of the opposition. No one should have any objection to this, but Rahul Gandhi going abroad and trying to defame our constitutional institutions, speaking against the communal harmony of our country, this is not good. I think Rahul Gandhi should stop being childish, he is now the leader of the opposition, he should speak his mind responsibly. Instead of insulting constitutional institutions, the power of the people, the mandate should be accepted. How long will he keep explaining why he lost the election for the third time? (Rajat Sharma)
