The Gujarat Police will deploy artificial intelligence (AI) based surveillance system with drones to prevent a stampede -like situation during the main chariot yatra in Ahmedabad on 27 June. An official gave this information. This step has been taken in view of the arrival of a large number of devotees in this visit.
Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Bharat Patel said on Tuesday that Ahmedabad Crime Branch will deploy an AI-Visual Analytics Software ‘, which will be alert to the police about the crowd pattern, learn from the recent incidents related to collective functions including Bengaluru.
On June 4, 11 people were killed and 56 others were injured in a stampede in front of Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. A large number of people gathered at the stadium to participate in the celebrations held after the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
Patel told reporters, “In view of the stampede in some states, we have decided to use AI-operated software for crowd monitoring and management during the Rath Yatra.”
According to the police, 14 to 15 lakh people are expected to attend the grand event to be held on 27 June.
Patel said that under the AI system, the Visual analysis in the police control room will get live video feeds from CCTV cameras and drones installed on the software travel route. Patel said, “This system will help us react on time, send additional security forces there and change the path of traffic on the basis of need.”
The Rath Yatra will start from the 400 -year -old Lord Jagannath Temple located in Jamalpur area at around 7 am on June 27. During the 16 -km route of the yatra, it will pass through various areas of Jamalpur, including communally sensitive areas. The journey will return to the temple at eight o’clock at night.
The Rath Yatra usually consists of 18 adorned elephants, 100 trucks and 30 arena. Millions of people gather on both sides of the route to get a glimpse of the gods.
