After the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the public hearing, his security system is being completely newly given new look. This incident raises serious questions about law and order in the national capital. Rekha Gupta currently has ‘Z-Plus’ category security under the Guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), but now steps are being taken towards strengthening it further. According to sources, the Center has decided to provide CRPF security of CRPF of ‘Z’ to CM Rekha Gupta. Following the instructions of the Union Home Ministry on Thursday, the CRPF took over the responsibility of their security.
This safety cover has been provided based on the assessment of danger prepared by intelligence agencies. According to officials, the Chief Minister’s official residence and camp office on Raj Niwas Road located in Civil Lines will also be now under the protection of CRPF’s VIP Security Group (VSG). It is the same special unit that also handles the security of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress’s Gandhi family. It was told that 22-25 trained and armed CRPF commandos will be deployed under the security of CM round the clock. Security will be deployed technical equipment, admission control and PSO both women and men to provide close security to the Chief Minister in public programs.
Security agencies have also made several new provisions regarding the security of the Chief Minister. Now people will not be able to meet the Chief Minister directly in public hearing sessions. Every complaint will go through the process of verification first and only then will be placed before the CM. Apart from this, a special circumference will be made so that no person can go close to the Chief Minister. Police say that this step has been taken to prevent recurrence of such accidents and further strengthen the safety protocol.
Initial reports during the incident said that the Chief Minister was slapped and pulled by a person, although later Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva described these reports as “concocted”. He also met the Chief Minister and took his well being. The police have arrested a person in this case.
