New Delhi. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, was granted bail by the local court today. Former in-charge of Tala police station Abhijeet Mandal has also got bail from the court. Both of them were accused of destroying evidence in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College. The court granted bail to Sandeep Ghosh and Abhijeet Mandal as CBI did not file charge sheet even after 90 days. On the other hand, the father of the deceased doctor expressed disappointment over Sandeep Ghosh and Abhijit Mandal getting bail.

After getting bail, former police officer Abhijeet Mandal will be released from jail but former principal Sandeep Ghosh will have to remain in jail. In fact, Sandeep Ghosh is also accused of financial irregularities in the medical college and hospital. Sandeep Ghosh was earlier arrested on these charges. Later, sections of suppressing the rape and murder case and tampering with evidence were also added against him. Now, since the case of financial irregularities is still pending, Sandeep Ghosh will not be able to come out of jail.
It is noteworthy that a trainee female doctor was raped and murdered during night shift at RG Kar Medical College. In this case, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh tried to hide the evidence by being negligent. After the matter gained momentum, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee instead of taking action against Sandeep Ghosh, transferred him. After this, while hearing the case, the High Court strongly reprimanded Sandeep Ghosh and West Bengal and raised the question as to why the government is so kind. Along with this, the court first ordered to send Sandeep Ghosh on long leave and later dismissed him from the job. IMA also took action against Sandeep Ghosh and canceled his membership.
