New Delhi. Controversy has started once again regarding the worship of Sai Baba in temples. The idol of Sai Baba has been removed from about 14 temples including the famous Ganesh temple, Purushottam temple of Varanasi. These idols have either been thrown into the Ganga or taken to the temple of Sai Baba. The work of removing the idols of Sai Baba from the temples of Kashi is being done by Sanatan Rakshak Dal. State President of Sanatan Rakshak Dal, Ajay Sharma, has given the logic behind this that Kashi is the city of Lord Bhole Baba, hence only idols of Sanatani Gods and Goddesses can be installed in the temples here. Due to ignorance, idols of Sai Baba were installed in these temples and now a campaign is being launched to remove them.

Let us tell you that there are lakhs of devotees of Sai Baba across the country who go to Shirdi and other Sai Baba temples every year to pay obeisance. But some Sanatan Dharmacharyas have been opposing the worship of Sai Baba for a long time. In particular, opposition is being expressed against installing the idol of Sai Baba along with the idol of God in Hindu temples. Late Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was also a vocal opponent of Sai worship. He had said many times that those who believe in Sanatan Dharma should not worship Sai.

Shankaracharya had said that Sai was not a god to be worshipped, rather he was a Muslim who earned his living by seeking initiation. Some time back, Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati had also opposed the worship of Sai Baba. Apart from these, many Sanatani including Dhirendra Shastri of Bageshwar Dham, storyteller Aniruddhacharya of Mathura have expressed their opinion against Sai Puja.
