Uproar over Sanjauli Mosque
The issue of illegal construction of mosque in Sanjauli of Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla was raised in the House under Rule 62. Congress minister Aniruddh Singh and Congress MLA Harish Janartha came face to face in the House. Under the rule, BJP MLA Balbir Verma and Congress MLA Harish Janartha drew the attention of the House towards the tension created due to illegal construction of the mosque. Congress MLA Harish Janartha said that construction work was done in the mosque 15 years ago, the land belongs to Waqf Board. He said that most of the people living here belong to Upper Shimla.

At the same time, Cabinet Minister Aniruddh Singh said that this mosque is built on government land. Encroachment has been done on government land. By 2019, four floors had been built illegally on the mosque. The Cabinet Minister also alleged collusion in this matter. The name of the owner of the mosque land is with the Himachal government. The Cabinet Minister kept all the documents on the table. A law should be made that the Tehbazari in Himachal should be of Himachal only. At present, the matter is with the Municipal Corporation. This case is going on in the Municipal Corporation Court regarding the wrong map.
What did Vikramaditya Singh say?
Responding to this matter, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that action is being taken in a fair manner in this entire matter. No one’s religious sentiments will be hurt. This matter came to light for the first time in 2010. Since then, the hearing in this case is going on in the Municipal Corporation Shimla, in which the Waqf Board was made a respondent. Mistakes were found in the map in the construction of the mosque. Even four floors have been constructed before 2018. In 2024, the Ayurveda toilet built here during the time of the current Congress government was also demolished. This entire matter started with a fight in Malayana and 6 people have been arrested in this, out of which two are minors. At present, its hearing is to be held in the Municipal Corporation and investigation will be done on all aspects.
