Sanjay Roy, convicted of raping and murdering a female doctor on duty at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, on Monday claimed in the court that he is innocent and has been wrongly convicted.
Roy was convicted of raping and strangulating a female doctor to death in August last year.
Before being sentenced in the case, Roy told the court, “I am being framed and I have not committed any crime. I haven’t done anything yet I have been convicted.”
Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Anirban Das on Saturday convicted Roy under sections 64, 66 and 103(1) of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).
During the proceedings, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) advocate requested for the harshest punishment to be given to the culprit.
The agency’s counsel told the court, “We request the harshest punishment to maintain people’s faith in the society.”
