All schools in six border districts of Punjab remained closed on Thursday amid increasing tension between India and Pakistan. Officials said schools were closed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts.
The tension increased when the Indian armed forces on Wednesday carried out missile attacks on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), including Jaish-e-Mohammed’s stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s whereabouts. The attack was carried out in response to the terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
The Deputy Commissioner of Tarn Taran issued an order saying that all schools in the district will be closed from 8 to 11 May. Officials said that schools have been ordered to be closed for the next 72 hours in Ferozepur. He informed that schools will remain closed till further orders in Fazilka.
