Security forces have achieved great success in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Two hybrid terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) have been arrested during a siege and search operation (CASO) launched in Baskuchan area on Wednesday night. These terrorists have been identified as Irfan Bashir and Ujir Salaam.
The security forces started this operation based on intelligence. According to the police, the area was completely surrounded and the presence of terrorists was observed in a garden. Due to quick and strategic action by security forces, both the terrorists surrendered, which averted a possible encounter.
Two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, 102 rounds (7.62x39mm), two grenades and two pouches have been recovered from the arrested terrorists. Officials said that the terrorists with these weapons were trying to carry out a major conspiracy.
Shopian police carried out this operation as a joint action of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This success is considered a part of the ongoing campaign against terrorism in South Kashmir, especially after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, in which 26 civilians were killed.
An FIR has been registered against both the terrorists and a thorough investigation into the case has been started. Security forces have appealed to the local people to immediately inform about such activities so that this fight against terrorism can be further strengthened.
