Death of servant in Jagannath temple
A tragic incident has come to light from Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. A temple servant died of a heart attack. The name of the deceased servant was Jagannath Mekap, who was a resident of Matimandap Sahi area of Puri and was working as a Suar Badu servant in the temple.
Fell down while sprinkling water in the sanctum sanctorum
According to the information, Jagannath Makeap suddenly collapsed while sprinkling water in the sanctum sanctorum during the Dwipahar Dhoop ritual of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra. He complained of chest pain, following which other servants and temple staff immediately took him to the district headquarters hospital in the temple ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead upon reaching the hospital.

Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, SP Vineet Aggarwal and the temple policy administrator and other senior officials reached the hospital and consoled the family of the deceased servant. Collector told the media that Jagannath Makeup was treated at Jagannath Hospital due to heart disease two years ago. However, he recovered and started serving Mahaprabhu again.
Request to appoint son in service
The Collector further said, “This is a very tragic incident, which happened during service. We are with the family of the deceased and will provide all possible support.” Jagannath Mekap’s family has requested for their son to be appointed to the service. Due to this incident, there is an atmosphere of mourning among the servants and devotees working in the temple.
