Severe cold in North India
New Delhi: A drop in temperature was recorded in many parts of North India and cold wave conditions persisted in some parts of Himachal Pradesh and dense fog prevailed in most of the states in the morning. According to the Meteorological Department, there was light to moderate snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and light rain also occurred in some parts. The mercury remained between one and five degrees Celsius in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, while the temperature was recorded between 6-10 degrees Celsius in many parts of north-west India.
The Meteorological Department said that due to the influence of western disturbance, there may be rain and snow in some parts of north-west India in the coming week. The Meteorological Department said in its bulletin that no significant change is expected in the minimum temperature over northwest India during the next 48 hours and after that it will gradually increase by two to three degrees. The department said that there was dense fog and cold at some places in Bikaner, Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur divisions of Rajasthan on Friday morning. Mount Abu, the state’s only hill station, was the coldest at 0.8 degrees Celsius. Sirohi in the plains recorded a temperature of 3.8 degrees Celsius. Almost all major cities recorded minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. The temperature in the state capital Jaipur was recorded at 7.8 degrees Celsius on Friday morning.
Cold increased in Kashmir after snowfall
After the snowfall, the minimum temperature has dropped at most places in Kashmir and the Meteorological Department has predicted mainly dry weather in the next few days. He said that there was snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir and some plains of the valley on Thursday. After the snowfall, cold conditions persist in Kashmir and a drop in night temperatures was recorded at most places. The minimum temperature in Srinagar on Thursday night was minus two degrees Celsius, which is half a degree more than the previous night’s minus 2.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded below minus seven degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 11.8 degrees Celsius, seven notches lower than the previous night’s minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
Severe cold wave in lower areas of Himachal
Severe cold wave conditions prevail in the lower hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and the temperature has fallen by three to five degrees Celsius in some parts. According to the local meteorological department, there was light rain at some places. Severe cold wave conditions were observed in Una and Hamirpur, while cold wave conditions were also observed in Barthin and Kangra. Tabo was the coldest at night, where the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 13.5 degrees Celsius. Cold day conditions were also observed in Punjab and Haryana.
Pathankot is the coldest in Punjab
Pathankot was the coldest place in Punjab where the temperature was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 6.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal; Patiala recorded 8.4 degrees Celsius, Bathinda 7 degrees Celsius, Faridkot 6.9 degrees Celsius and Gurdaspur districts recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Union Territory Chandigarh and the common capital of both the states was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius. In the neighboring state of Haryana, the minimum temperature of Ambala was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius, Rohtak at 10.1 degrees Celsius, Karnal at seven degrees Celsius and Narnaul at six degrees Celsius.
UP in the grip of severe cold
Uttar Pradesh is in the grip of severe cold and fog reduced visibility in many parts on Friday morning. Dense fog disrupted normal life in the morning, especially in major cities like Lucknow, where it affected road traffic and left some trains delayed by several hours. The Centre’s Commission on Air Quality in Delhi-NCR on Friday lifted restrictions under phase three of the Gradual Response Action Plan (GRAP) amid reduction in pollution due to favorable weather conditions.
