The scissors Dham has become a religious center on the world stage today. But the local hotels here are staining the beauty and dignity of this place. 13 hotels and 5 restaurants are leaving sewer in the Holy Shipra River. The Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UKPCB) has issued a notice to 13 hotels and five restaurants for leaving waste materials in the Shipra River, a popular pilgrimage site located in the hills of Kumaon, about 38 km from Nainital.
A team of the State Pollution Board recently camped at the site for three days, collected samples and then issued notices to hotel owners and restaurant owners on Saturday, giving them a month’s time to file replies. UKPCB officials said that 13 hotels are operated near the scissors Dham, while many others are under construction. In addition to these hotels, there are five restaurants running there and the garbage coming out of all 18 establishments is polluting the Shipra River, causing damage to the environment, “an official said.
UKPCB regional officer Anurag Negi told the Times of India, “We have issued a notice to the hotels under construction, as they started work without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The month of the month is given, after which appropriate action will be taken as per the rules.
