Shangri-La Dialog

by Amit Tripathi

Shangri-La Dialog

On the stage of Shangri-La dialogue held in Singapore, strict words were exchanged between the military officials of India and Pakistan. India’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said in clear terms that India has now pulled the ‘Red Line’ against terrorism. Referring to the recent terrorist attacks, he warned Pakistan in gestures that India will no longer tolerate any terrorist act.

General Chauhan said that through actions like “Operation Sindhustan”, India has made it clear that if terrorism from Pakistan’s land continues, India will not back down from reacting.

At the same time, Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza raised the issue of Kashmir in a counter -statement and said that the dispute would continue till it is resolved as per the proposals of the United Nations Security Council. He warned that the absence of Kashmir can lead to volatility in South Asia.

This rhetoric has occurred at a time when 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, who has been accused by India on Pakistan-supported terrorists. Pakistan has rejected these allegations.

Such public and tough statements of the two countries are considered to be further enhancing regional tension. In the Shangri-La dialogue, the conflict again exposed the delicate state of Indo-Pak relations on the global stage.
