New Delhi. The bail plea of social media influencer Sharmishtha Panoli was heard in the Kalakatta High Court today. Panoli’s lawyer demanded the cancellation of the FIR lodged against him and granted him bail. While commenting on the matter, Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee said that Sharmistha has hurt the sentiments of a community. The court also said that in the name of freedom of expression, no religious desires can be hurt. With this, the court fixed the next hearing of the case on 5 June.
Let us tell you that Sharmishtha Panoli West is a law student. He recently posted a post on social media after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which he had mainly targeted the Muslim actors of Bollywood and questioned their silence and there were many things about Islam and Prophet Mohammed. However, after the controversy escalated, Panoli deleted his video from social media and publicly apologized for his comments. In the same case, an FIR was registered against Sharmishtha and on the night of 30 May, he was arrested from Gurugram.
After the arrest, he was taken before the lower court of Kolkata, from where the court sent him to judicial custody by 13 June. On behalf of Panoli, senior advocate DP Singh said that he was also deprived of basic human rights in jail. They are also not being given basic human rights like changing clothes or taking medicines. The court has sought a report on this till June 4, that is, tomorrow. The lawyer also argued that Sharmistha is also receiving threats inside the jail.
