New Delhi. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has to appear before the Delhi High Court tomorrow in the defamation case related to the objectionable comment made against PM Modi. But before that, Tharoor has knocked the door of the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court is ready to list the petition of the Congress MP. CJI DY Chandrachud has said that send the email, we will look into it. In its order dated 29 August 2024, the Delhi High Court had cancelled the interim order staying the criminal proceedings against Shashi Tharoor and ordered him to appear before the trial court on 10 September.

Earlier on 16 October 2022, the court had stayed the criminal proceedings against Tharoor in the defamation complaint. This case was filed against Shashi Tharoor by BJP leader Rajiv Babbar. During his speech at the Bengaluru Literature Festival in November 2018, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor made very objectionable remarks against PM Narendra Modi and compared him to a scorpion. After the case was registered in this matter, the lower court had issued summons to Shashi Tharoor in the year 2019. After this, the Congress leader had approached the Delhi High Court. Then the Delhi High Court had stayed the summons of the lower court.
Later, a stay was also given on the criminal proceedings in the defamation case against Tharoor. But on 29 August 2024, Justice Anup Kumar of the Delhi High Court dismissed all the previous orders and said that there is no basis to cancel the proceedings at this stage. Now Tharoor has knocked the door of the Supreme Court against this order of the High Court. However, in this regard, Tharoor says that he himself did not say anything but that he was referring to the statement given by an RSS leader to a journalist.
