An incident that puts humanity to shame has come to light from Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Here a poor girl had to tie her brother’s dead body to the roof of a taxi to take it to her village, 195 kilometers away. A girl named Shivani (22) used to work in Haldwani with her younger brother Abhishek (20). On Friday, Abhishek suffered a headache and returned home, but was later found unconscious near the railway track. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Appealed for help at low rent
According to the police, Abhishek’s body was handed over to Shivani after the post-mortem on Saturday. Shivani told that she contacted many ambulance drivers to take the body home, but all of them asked for a fare of Rs 10-12 thousand, which she did not have. He pleaded for help at the lowest fare, but no one helped him. There was not much money, so Shivani called a taxi driver from her village and tied her brother’s body on the roof of the taxi and took it to her home, 195 kilometers away.
“…then you would definitely help”
On this incident, Principal of Sushila Tiwari Government Medical College, Dr. Arun Joshi said that this incident happened outside the hospital, which did not come to his notice. He said that if the matter had happened inside the hospital, he would have definitely helped. The attendants of the patients standing outside the hospital said that no one has any control over the private ambulances and they charge the patients as per their wish to take them from one place to another.
CM Dhami took cognizance
After the incident became public, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took cognizance and ordered an investigation into the matter. He directed the officials to take strict action against the culprits. The Chief Minister said that such incidents should not be repeated and the state government would thoroughly investigate the matter. A government spokesperson said the Chief Minister has asked Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar to investigate the matter and take strict action against the culprits. (Language)
