Layer of smog spread in Delhi
New Delhi: A thick blanket of smog is spread in the national capital Delhi and Mumbai. Delhi is facing such a situation due to cold wave conditions and poor air quality. At the same time, due to poor air quality, there is a blanket of smog in Mumbai also.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality index (AQI) in the capital Delhi fell to 393 i.e. ‘very poor’ category, which was 370 on Saturday. AQI between zero and 50 is ‘good’, 51 to 100 is ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 is ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 is ‘poor’, 301 to 400 is ‘very poor’. ‘And between 401 and 500 is considered ‘severe’. The humidity level was recorded at 97 per cent at 8:30 am, the IMD said. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 24 degrees Celsius.
Delhi’s air quality
This week, Delhi is witnessing a deterioration in air quality again, forcing authorities to re-implement the fourth and final phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Under this, all schools have been made online and BS-IV or older diesel medium and heavy goods vehicles registered in Delhi have been banned. All construction activities have also been stopped in the national capital. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), foggy conditions may persist for a few more days due to increasing cold in the national capital.
At the same time, the cold wave has increased in the capital Delhi, in many areas the minimum temperature has been recorded near 7 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung and Palam in Delhi recorded minimum temperatures of 7.3 and 8.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
Smog spread in Mumbai also
This time it is very cold in Mumbai. After decades, such cold is being seen in the city. The air quality of the city has declined. For the fourth consecutive day, a blanket of smog remained in the city and the total AQI reached 176. Earlier this week, the AQI had reached 199, which was in the ‘poor’ category.
