In Odisha, 28 people were admitted to hospital due to snake bites.

Bhubaneswar: A few hours ago, not only cyclone ‘Dana’ was wreaking havoc in Odisha, but snakes were also roaming around like a threat to the people. State Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday that a total of 28 people, including 13 women and a doctor, were admitted to hospital due to snake bites during the cyclone. Majhi, after taking stock of the post-cyclone situation in the state, said that 28 cases of snake bites have been reported in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts, which were worst affected by the cyclone. Majhi said, ‘The snake bite victims were immediately taken to nearby hospitals and their condition is improving after treatment.’

Doctor who went out to defecate was bitten by a snake

Odisha Chief Minister said that the injured doctor was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and his condition is fine. It is being told that Dr. Babul Mohanty was bitten by a snake while going for defecation. Mohanty was posted at the Primary Health Center (PHC) at Mahakalpara in Kendrapara district to provide health services to the people during the cyclone. There was no toilet for the medical staff in the PHC, so Dr. Mohanty had gone out to relieve himself in the morning on 25 October and was bitten by a poisonous snake. He was given anti-snakebite vaccine and taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

4 officers suspended due to misbehavior and negligence

Meanwhile, the Odisha government on Saturday suspended four officers for negligence and misbehavior with people during cyclone-related work. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that after receiving prima facie evidence, three Panchayat Extension Officers and a Revenue Inspector have been suspended. According to the allegations, these four officers were appointed to transport people to cyclone shelters, where they misbehaved with some people. Pujari said his department has also received complaints against some other officers which are being verified.
