The news of Infosys being fired 240 trainees from jobs has created a stir in the IT industry. These trainees have been removed due to the company’s internal evaluation – ‘Jerial Foundation Training Program’ – even after three efforts not due to non -obtaining minimum qualification criteria. Earlier in February too, the company had removed more than 300 trainees for this reason, due to which it is considered to be the second major pruning.
The email sent by the HR department stated that these trainees were given enough time, doubt clearing sessions and three opportunities for preparation, but they could not achieve the necessary qualification level. As a result, they cannot be allowed to proceed in internships and job programs.
However, the company has not completely left the affected trainees alone. Infosys has offered to offer free upscirling courses and outplacement services through platforms like NIIT and Upgrad. In addition, two alternative avenues have been given – first training for the business process management (BPM) industry, and second, a course developing basic skills in the IT sector. After successfully completing the training, candidates can apply for the opportunities available in Infosys BPM Limited.
This decision has raised many questions on the trainees’ evaluation system, company’s training process and support system. Many students on social media have expressed displeasure over the move. He says that when it took two-and-a-half years to give offer letter, then the company should have shown some patience. At the same time, some people are also appreciating the company’s transparency and the move to give alternative options.
This entire incident has also shown how strictly being taken in existing IT companies regarding training and evaluation. Now the question is whether companies should bring flexibility in their training models, so that young talents can get more opportunities to prove themselves? Or is the top performance place in the market competition? This step of Infosys will definitely give a new direction to these debates.
