Heavy rains lashed Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, bringing traffic to a complete standstill in the city. Many domestic flights were canceled because not enough passengers arrived. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the well-marked low pressure area has intensified into a depression and is expected to cross the Chennai coast on the morning of October 17.

IMD issued alert

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said Disaster Response Force personnel have been deployed in Bengaluru following the forecast of heavy rain. “We are redeploying another 40 personnel to be ready for any requirement. We have kept fire and emergency services on standby for immediate response,” he said.
