A day after the death of 18 people in a stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday night, strict security arrangements have been made there. However, a large number of passengers have started coming.
An official said that the Delhi Police along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) has deployed additional personnel to control the crowd at the station. On Sunday too, there was a lot of crowd at the station and thousands of passengers had to struggle to climb in trains amid huge crowds.
The official said on Sunday, “We have installed barricades, increased patrol and deployed quick response teams to stop any incident. CCTV surveillance has also been increased to control the crowd and the control room has been increased Monitor time footage. “
He said that announcements are being made to guide the passengers and avoid the situation of nervousness.
The stampede on Saturday occurred at around 10 pm when a group of confused passengers ran towards platform 16 via narrow stairs due to disturbances in the announcement of the train.
The crowd, which was trying to climb up and the people trying to get down, became a human barrier. In a few minutes, panic spread and people started falling, causing a terrible stampede.
On Sunday too, the congestion was more or less unchanged, thousands of people still pushing to get a place on platforms and foot-over bridges.
