New Delhi. The Delhi government is going to take strict measures this year too to prevent the rising air pollution during the winter season in Delhi. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government has decided to ban firecrackers this year too. Along with this, the odd-even scheme is being considered again in Delhi, for which preparations have also been started.
Last year too, firecrackers were banned
The Delhi government had also banned firecrackers last year with the aim of controlling air pollution. However, this ban is not currently in force. As soon as this year’s new notification is issued, the ban will come into effect and it will remain in effect till January 1, 2025.
Work from home and artificial rain plan
As part of efforts to control pollution, the Delhi government is planning to encourage people to work from home (WFH) this time. This will result in fewer vehicles on the roads and improve air quality. Apart from this, the Delhi government has also sent a letter to the Union Environment Ministry to make artificial rain. This plan will be implemented in an emergency situation.
Gopal Rai’s appeal: “Let’s walk together and fight pollution”
Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai, while announcing the theme of this year’s ‘Winter Action’ plan, said that it will be ‘Let’s walk together and fight pollution’. He said that pollution in other states of NCR also affects Delhi, due to which the cooperation of the central government is also necessary. He stressed on dealing with pollution effectively only through collective efforts.
Steady decline in pollution
Gopal Rai also said that due to collective efforts, the level of pollution in Delhi is continuously decreasing. In the year 2016, the air quality in Delhi was bad for 243 days, whereas in 2023 this number has come down to 159. In the last one year, a reduction of about 34.6% has been recorded in the level of pollution.
