In the case of Justice Yashwant Verma, Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna announced to form an inquiry committee of 3 judges when he got a video of the currency notes in the sacks after the fire of Justice Yashwant Verma. Justice Yashwant Verma’s house caught fire on the night of Holi on 14 March. Justice Yashwant Verma went to Madhya Pradesh at the time of the incident. In this case, Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna had asked Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay for a preliminary investigation. More detailed investigation was recommended in the report given by Justice Upadhyay. After which Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna formed a committee of 3 judges to investigate the Yashwant Verma case.
Justice Yashwant Verma had earlier said during a meeting with Chief Justice DK Upadhyay of Delhi High Court that where the fire was caught, it is the outhouse of his government house. Where many people including the servants and guards of the house go and go. Justice Yashwant Verma also feared that it is a conspiracy to tarnish his image. He also said that when he returned to residence after the incident, no burnt note was found. It also argued that the incident is not of his main residence, but of the outhouse. At the same time, the media had shown on Saturday that there are pieces of burnt notes just distance away from Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence. NDMC cleaning workers also say that they received burnt notes from this place.
