Taking seriously the incident of gang rape of a college student in Kolkata, the National Commission for Women (NCW) wrote a letter to the Kolkata Police Commissioner on Friday and directed for immediate and timely inquiry into the case. The institution has taken cognizance of the incident of South Kolkata.
NCW said in a statement, “Commission Chairman Vijaya Rahatkar wrote a letter to the Kolkata Police Commissioner expressing concern over the incident and has directed a quick and time -bound inquiry under the relevant provisions of the Code of India (BNS).”
The statement said that the chairman of the Commission has also emphasized the need to provide full medical, mental and legal aid to the victim and has said that she should be compensated under Section 396 of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS).
According to the police, a student was allegedly gang -raped by two senior students and an alumni at a college in Kolkata.
An official said that the three accused in the case were arrested on Thursday night.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the evening of 25 June, when the student went to college. At the same time, the three accused took him to a room and gang -raped him.
