New Delhi. The university administration has refused to allow students to organize Holi Milan ceremony at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The AMU administration has clearly stated that no new tradition will be allowed to start. In fact, Hindu students studying in the university wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor on 25 February. In this letter, he requested the VC to allow the Holi Milan ceremony to be allowed to celebrate the Holi Milan ceremony at NRSC Club in AMU on 9 March. At the same time, there is resentment among the students with this decision of the administration.
Hindu students say that when Rosa Iftar is organized in every department and every hostel of Ramadan, then why can’t Holi Milan ceremony be held. Hindu students said that Eid procession comes out in the university, there is no prohibition of Moharram procession and Chehalum procession. He said that we have no objection to anyone’s festival as to why we are not being allowed to celebrate our festival. At the same time, students also say that AMU Proctor Professor Mohammad Wasim Ali is not giving us written orders not to celebrate Holi Milan ceremony.
At the same time, Proctor Wasim Ali says that students play Holi every year at the university campus and in their hostels. This year too, students will play Holi, there is no prohibition in it. But this case is of special event at a special place and the university does not want to start any new tradition. On the other hand, former Aligarh Mayor and BJP leader Shakuntala Bharti said that this is India and everyone here is allowed to celebrate their festival according to their religion. He has said to make CM Yogi Adityanath aware of this matter.
