Sunita Williams set the record for the longest time as a female astronaut

Indian -origin astronaut Sunita Williams has broken the record of the most time in space by a woman by walking in space for 62 hours and 6 minutes.

From June 2024, Williams and his colleague Buch Wilmore, trapped at the International Space Station (ISS), walked into space on Thursday.

Both of them went out of the ISS and removed the damaged radio communication hardware and collected samples, which would reveal whether microorganisms are present in the outer part of the laboratory or not.

According to the Eastern Coast Time (EST) in space, the splash started at 7:43 am and ended at 1.4 pm. This process lasted for 5 hours and 26 minutes.

EST is used for the US standard time which is 10.5 hours behind the IST (Indian Standards Time).

NASA said in a post on ‘X’, “NASA’s astronaut Sunita Williams has crossed 60 hours and 21 minutes at the time of spiral in the space for the most time of former astronaut Paigi Whitson.”

She left behind Whitson’s record in terms of total time walk in space by a female astronaut. According to NASA, Williams has a total time for Williams to be 62 hours and 6 minutes in space so far, which ranks fourth in NASA’s all -time list.

Williams (59) and Wilmore rode on Boeing’s Starelineer in June 2024 and went on an ISS’s eight -day mission.

However, Starlineer was unsafe for their return due to technical problems such as helium leakage and thorns. NASA plans to bring him back to Earth through a spacecraft manufactured by Boeing’s rival company SpaceX at the end of March.

Despite these failures, astronauts have continued their work on the ISS, waiting for a safe house.
