New Delhi. The Supreme Court today again expressed displeasure over the increasing air pollution in Delhi and non-effective implementation of the ban on firecrackers. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to form a special cell to ensure effective implementation of the ban on firecrackers. The Supreme Court said that no religion supports any activity that promotes pollution or compromises the health of the people. The Supreme Court has also directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to file a personal affidavit setting on record the steps taken by him to enforce the ban on firecrackers. For this, time has been given till 25th November.

The Supreme Court directed all NCR states to come forward and inform the court about the efforts taken by them to keep pollution to a minimum. The Supreme Court said that why the ban on firecrackers is limited only to Diwali and the surprising thing in this is that this order is implemented but it is not enforced effectively. For this, the Supreme Court once again raised questions on the functioning of Delhi Government and Delhi Police.
The Supreme Court made a strong comment saying that on October 14, two days after Dussehra, the Delhi government issued a directive to ban firecrackers, but it could have been done earlier also, why are you not already alert on such a serious issue? Every year after Diwali, the level of pollution in Delhi becomes dangerous, despite this there does not seem to be any seriousness regarding the ban on firecrackers. Even before this, during the hearing of the case, the Supreme Court had reprimanded the Delhi government and the police.
