New Delhi. Special revision SIR of voters in Bihar has been described by the Supreme Court as favorable to voters and their interest. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Jayamalya Bagchi continued the hearing on SIR on Wednesday. During this, the bench said that one of the 11 documents has been sought for special revision of voters. Whereas, one of the 7 documents is taken during the summer update of the voter list. The Supreme Court bench said that it is clear that SIR is of the interest of voters.
A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Jayamalya Bagchi said that the petitioners have argued that it is unfair not to accept the Aadhaar card. Nevertheless, the Election Commission gave other documents options to the voters of Bihar. It seems that the Election Commission intends to take everyone along in the SIR process. The bench said that a large number of documents are correct. The Supreme Court also said that there are 36 lakh passport holders in Bihar. That is, their coverage is fine. Justice Bagchi said that a list of documents is made by taking feedback from different government departments to ensure maximum coverage.
Senior advocate and Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the petitioners earlier in the Supreme Court, said that the number of documents may be more, but their coverage is less. He gave the example of voters having passports. The petitioners’ counsel said that passport coverage in Bihar is only one or two percent. He told the court that the certificate of permanent resident in Bihar is also not given. Singhvi told the bench of the Supreme Court that if we look at the availability of documents with the population of Bihar, then it is very low. That is, people of Bihar get fewer documents. Explain that the Election Commission has removed 65.64 lakh people from the draft voter list after the first phase of SIR in Bihar. The Election Commission says that 22 lakh people have died. 7 lakh people are more than one place voters and the rest have shifted from Bihar permanently.
