The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the violence against Waqf laws.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday made a very important comment while hearing the petitions filed on the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025. The court termed the violence during the protests over the new Waqf laws as ‘very distressed’. Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice K.V. Vishwanathan’s bench made this comment during a hearing on petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the recently revised Waqf Act.
‘If the matter is pending here, it should not happen’
During the hearing, Chief Justice Khanna said, ‘One thing that is very distressed is the violence happening here. If the matter is pending here, it should not happen. Taking a dig at the protesters, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, presented by the central government, said, “They think that this can put pressure on the system.” However, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of a Muslim organization, opposed the argument, saying, “Who is pressurizing whom, we do not know.” On this, the Chief Justice said that some ‘positive points’ of the bill should be outlined.
Many incidents of violence during anti -Waqf demonstrations
Let us know that on April 14, the latest incidents of Waqf law have come to light in Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. At the same time, at least 3 people died and hundreds of people were killed in communal violence in areas like Suti, Samserganj, Dhulian and Jangipur on April 11 and 12 in Murshidabad district. According to the police, the situation in Murshidabad is now under control to a large extent. The Calcutta High Court had recently ordered the deployment of central forces in the violence affected Murshidabad.
