New Delhi. The court has allowed his family to talk to his family while providing relief to the accused in the Mumbai 26/11 terror attack. The Patiala House Court of Delhi, however, has given permission to make a phone call only once. Special Judge Justice Chandrajit Singh, according to the jail rules and under the supervision of Tihar Jail Officer, should talk to his family. The court has sought a detailed report related to Rana in 10 days. The judge has also asked the jail authorities to explain his stand about whether Rana should be allowed to call regular phone calls according to the jail manual.
Rana is currently lodged in the High Security Cell of Tihar Jail, Delhi. The NIA has extradited him from the US. Rana is an associate of David Kolamen Headley, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks. He is accused of helping Headley in planning the Mumbai attacks. Originally Pakistani Canadian businessman Rana was in the US jail. On April 4, the US Supreme Court rejected the petition demanding Rana to stop extradition, after which he was brought to India on 10 April. The NIA was trying for a long time to bring Rana to India, in which he now got success.
After being brought to India, the court sent Rana to NIA custody for 18 days. Later, his remand was extended for 12 days further. The NIA had earlier also revealed a chat by Rana and Headley. Rana wanted to get the highest honor of Pakistan ‘Nishan-e-Saidar’ to the terrorists killed in the Mumbai attacks. Earlier, Tahwwur Rana had demanded Quran, paper and pen to study in jail, which was completed.
