Tehwwur Rana
New Delhi: Delhi Patiala House Court sent Tahwwur Hussain Rana, accused of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, sent to Tihar Jail till June 6 on Friday. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) presented Rana before Special Judge Chandrajit Singh a day before the end of the judicial custody period, from where he was sent to judicial custody.
India was brought on 4 April
Rana, a close associate of the Mumbai attack, was brought to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his review petition against India’s extradition against India’s extradition on April 4. On 11 April, the court sent him to NIA custody for 18 days. The court had extended Rana’s NIA detention for 12 days on 28 April, as the agency told the court that Rana could disclose the current and future terrorist plans of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its chief Hafiz Saeed for India.
NIA is questioning
The agency said that it is questioning Rana keeping in mind the health. However, Rana claimed that he was being questioned for 20 hours daily. The NIA had sought his custody, claiming that Rana has been involved in non -cooperation. The court on April 30 allowed the agency to collect Rana’s voice and handwriting samples.
Earlier on May 3, samples of voice and writing samples were taken in the court. Rana was brought before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Vaibhav Kumar under tight security. The NIA had taken samples of his writing in the court proceedings in a closed room. His legal assistant lawyer Piyush Sachdev, who represented Rana, said on behalf of his client that he has recently followed the order given by the court, in which he was instructed to present samples of his voice and handwriting. “Recently the court asked the NIA to take samples of Rana’s voice and handicrafts.
Rana, a close aide of David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani, the chief conspirator of the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, was brought to India. He is an American citizen and the US Supreme Court dismissed his review petition against his extradition on April 4. On November 26, 2008 in Mumbai, 10 Pakistani militants attacked a railway station, two magnificent hotels and a Jewish center. The attack lasted for about 60 hours in which 166 people lost their lives. The terrorists reached India’s financial capital Mumbai via the Arabian Sea. (input language)
