The number of dead increased to 37 in the explosion at Sigachi Industries’ pharma factory in Sangreddy district of Telangana. On 2 July 2025, another body was evacuated from the rubble. The company told the National Stock Exchange that 40 employees were killed in the accident. This information came from The Hindu report.
The explosion occurred on 30 June 2025 at 9:10 am in Pashmyalaram Industrial Area. Sigachi Industries Microcystline Cellulose (MCC), which is used in the drug and food industry. Initially it was considered a reactor explosion, but the company later described it as a malfunction of the air dryer system.
143 employees were in the factory in the accident. 37 bodies have been found so far, but only four have been identified – Jagan Mohan, Ram Singh, Shashi Bhushan Kumar and Lalanjit. The remaining 33 bodies are difficult due to badly scorched. DNA tests are being done in Forensic Science Lab to identify them.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in removing debris. The rain made rescue work more difficult. 13 employees are still missing. 34 people are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the spot. He announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a grace of Rs 2 lakh. The injured will get Rs 50,000.
Investigation of the accident revealed that the fire NOC of the factory was over. Employees had raised security concerns earlier. This is the biggest industrial accident in Telangana. The opposition party BJP demanded a thorough investigation. Sigachi has closed its factory for 90 days.
